German Language Certificate Program (GLCP)

German Language Learning for Secondary School Students (Year 7 and above)

Deutsche Schule Melbourne offers an extra-curricular German Language Certificate Program (GLCP) for secondary school students in Year 7 and above. We offer these German language classes to our former students and any other students who possess equivalent language skills – giving them an opportunity to maintain and further develop their advanced German language knowledge. Our program follows the levels defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and is an excellent preparation for their VCE exam in the subject German. All students interested in an intensive German language program are welcome to take part in these German classes provided they fulfil the minimum entry requirement which is Level A2 as defined by the CEFR. The entry assessment will be conducted at Deutsche Schule Melbourne by our German teachers.

Our program is split into two parts:

Part 1 of our German Language Certificate Program runs over four semesters and prepares students for the Level B1 examination - as defined by CEFR. Level B1 means that students are capable of ‘intermediate use of the language’ and it allows students to enrol at a preparatory ‘Studienkolleg’ in Germany. Students will have to enrol with an external provider to sit the B1 exam.

Part 2 of our German Language Certificate Program runs over the following three years. It prepares students to sit the Level B2/C1 examinations as defined by CEFR. Level B2/C1 allows students to qualify – from a language perspective – for the majority of institutions of higher education and university level in German-speaking countries. Students who have passed the B2/C1 examination will only need to complete units 3 and 4 of the VCE exam in German and will receive a credit for units 1 and 2. Students will have to enrol with an external provider to sit the B2/C1 examination.

Program Fees

Our German language classes run as an extra-curricular program during the four terms of the school year. The program fees for our German language classes are $600 per term plus an additional $150 per year for books and materials. Examinations with an external provider incur a separate fee.
