Our whole team is looking forward to welcoming you at Deutsche Schule Melbourne!
The DSM German Christmas Market is a showcase of traditional German culture and festive fun in the Melbourne Spring!
Expect delicious food such as sausages, pretzels, pizzas, cakes, Apfelstrudel and jam donuts as well as drinks such as mulled wine, kids' punch and German beer.
We will also be welcoming 40+ stallholders offering a wide range of hand-made Christmas gifts, glass ornaments, local jewellery and more.
Our professional chef and his dedicated parent helpers are already working hard in our Christmas bakery and will be selling gingerbread houses, gingerbread house kits, cookie hampers, a variety of biscuits such as Vanillekipferl and Spritzgebäck and of course our famous Christmas stollens!
But wait, there's more! Live music and lots of fun kids' activities!
Our Christmas Market is not only about festive fun; it’s also the main fundraiser of the year, helping to support the Deutsche Schule Melbourne and enhance our students’ learning experience. In past years, funds raised have helped build a fantastic playground, purchase a wealth of books for our library, and fund other important school projects.
The market is almost entirely run by the engaged parent community of the school, a massive and exciting labour of love! ❤️

Parking is limited on-site, so we encourage you to use public transport for convenience.
🚋 Trams: 11 (Holden St/St. Georges Rd) or 96 (Brunswick Rd/Nicholson St)
🚌 Buses: 250, 251 (Porter St/Holden St)
There is disabled parking available right in front of our school at the Barkly Street entrance, and most of our market stalls are accessible.
There is also a drop-off zone for anyone on the Holden Street side of our school.
While well-behaved dogs are allowed, we don’t recommend bringing them due to the crowds.
Yes! With over 30 stalls, we have food and drink to cater to everyone’s dietary needs.
A German saying goes “We’re not made of sugar!”. So, yes, we will go ahead rain, hail, or shine, please dress for the weather!
Our market is mostly cash-free, so please bring cards or digital payments.
Yes, the DSM German Christmas Market is an outdoor event. A few stalls are inside and many of the activities are under some sort of verandah/gazebo or umbrella, but the main event is outdoors.
The main entrances are on Holden Street and on Dean Street. Please avoid our former Barkly Street entrance since we need to keep access to the FROEBEL Childcare Centre next door clear. Our official address is Deutsche Schule Melbourne, 96 Barkly Street in Fitzroy North VIC 3068. However, please access the event from Holden or Dean Street. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
All funds raised from the Christmas Market will go directly to supporting programs and resources for our students at Deutsche Schule Melbourne.
Stall spaces for 2024 are fully booked, but applications for 2025 open in Term 3 next year.
