Our Community

Deutsche Schule Melbourne is proud of its vibrant parent community. Families from diverse backgrounds join the school and supplement school life by taking part in a variety of activities.

The school community organises events like the annual DSM Christmas Market, gets involved in Open Days and organises special occasions for the children, such as welcome BBQs, carnivals, Bonfire Night or German Movie Nights, just to name a few. Parents may get involved and support student learning by joining the one-on-one reading program, helping in the school library or with interschool competitions.

Class Parent Representatives

Class Parent Representatives are an important link between the DSM families and our school. All Representatives are volunteers who wish to take on a more active and supporting role within our school community. They help strengthen the bond between the parents and the class teachers, and will enhance the students’ experience at school. The individual Class Parent Representatives are selected from each class and are actively involved in creating opportunities for the classes and community to come together during the school year, working together with their class teachers. These occasions could be social, sporting & fundraising events and other school celebrations.

Their role is to

  • meet with class teachers to get to know each other really well
  • find out what’s new in class and at school
  • welcome new families
  • get to know new staff
  • help with events like athletics day, open days, welcome BBQ, etc or facilitate a roster to get other parents involved
  • update teachers on parent driven activities like Stammtische
  • help with reading roster or class activities
  • bringing parent ideas to the teacher for discussion
  • jointly draft classroom news with the class teachers when required
